The 10 Best Halloween Movies to Watch before (and on) October 31st!

Halloween is upon us, and with it only being a week and a half away, I am sharing my 10 favorite spooky movies to watch every year at Halloween time (or when your spooky bone tingles!). With only ten days left, you can watch one per day!

Since I have a baby, I tend to lean in the direction of family friendly movies, and these do not disappoint!

1. HOCUS POCUS (1993) – This movie is my absolute favorite. I have religiously watched this movie every year, more time than I would like to admit. It has the charm of the 90’s with a story line of a virgin lighting a candle that brings three witches back from the dead who suck the lies from little children. Disney would never produce anything with a story line like that in the P.C. culture we live in now, which makes it so much more of a treasure. I look forward to this gem every year.

“A curious youngster moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century. ”

2. HALLOWEENTOWN (1998) – This movie is as cheesy as the name would make you think, with just enough of a scary twist to make it perfect for family watching at Halloween time.

” After learning she is a witch, a girl helps save a town full of other supernatural creatures. ”

3. SCOOBY-DOO (2002) – I will never forget the year this came out it was on my brother’s birthday. This movie is funny, and a bit scary (but not too scary for the kiddos). It has a great story line and is super entertaining!

” After an acrimonious break up, the Mystery Inc. gang are individually brought to an island resort to investigate strange goings on. ”

4. THE GOONIES (1985) – Who doesn’t love a good adventure, pirates and treasure?! I find myself wanting to be a “Goonie” every time I watch the classic!

“A group of young misfits who call themselves The Goonies discover an ancient map and set out on a quest to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure.”

5. CASPER MEETS WENDY (1998) – I love little Hillary Duff! This movie has all the combination of nostalgia and fun to keep me coming back every year!

” Casper, a ghost, teams up with Wendy, a witch, against an evil warlock. ”

6. GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) Whether you are watching the classic or the new version that came out in 2017, both a great!

“Three former parapsychology professors set up shop as a unique ghost removal service. ”

7. THE HAUNTED MANSION (2003) – I LOVE Eddie Murphy. His 90’s movies are so funny, and this one is great!

“A realtor, his wife and children are summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted, and while they attempt to escape, he learns an important lesson about the family he has neglected. ”

8. TOWER OF TERROR (1997) – My siblings and I loved this movie growing up!

“A disgraced reporter investigates an abandoned luxury hotel where five people mysteriously disappeared sixty years earlier. ”

9. DON’T LOOK UNDER THE BED (1999) – This was the first movie that actually scared me as a kid! It can definitely scare your kiddos, so be careful!

” A teen enlists the help of an imaginary friend named Larry Houdini to deal with a prank-playing bogeyman, who’s framing her for his dastardly deeds. ”

10. UNDERWRAPS (1997) – Mummies? Gotta love them! Especially for Halloween time!

” Three kids accidentally re-animate a mummy on Halloween.”

I created this checklist so you can get watching and mark them off as you go!

What re your favorite movies to watch at Halloween time? Did I miss any essentials?

Happy Watching!
