Wedding Songs That Slap and Must be Played at Your Wedding

Hello Everyone!

If you are at all like me, which I believe you are since youa re here, reading my blog, you are DESPERATELY missing wedding season.  I don’t want to be the basic of all bitches here, but truly, the wedding season brings me so much happiness, at least in these past few years.  Being able to attend weddings with my husband is a little reminder me of the bond we built at marriage, and how much I love him.  Plus, who doesn’t love a great party?!

In my opinion, there are a few songs you MUST play at your wedding reception in order to keep the party alive and going.  For my own wedding, I actually made the playlist on Spotify, and forwarded it my my DJ to make sure the songs that were played would keep everyone on the dance floor.  We danced so long, they kicked us out!  It was a great time.

So without further ado, here are my TOP 10 songs to keep people on the dance floor at your wedding!

10. 24k Magic – Bruno Mars

Typically I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to wedding music but this song hits so good in all the right ways! Actually the next two songs are more modern than my typical choices, but variety, you know!

9.Yeah – Usher Featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris

I may be a BIT biased when it comes to this song because it brings me back to my middle school days, but DAMN this song makes me MOVE!  Every time I hear it, the smell of fruit punch, and sweaty middle schoolers comes back to me in the best way.  If you were in the bathroom at the school dance when this song came on, you know you were dipping out of the line and running to the dance floor, whether you peed yourself or not.

8. Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars

Again, a more modern choice, but Bruno has so many songs to shake that booty to!  Uptown Funk is definitely one of my favorites of his from this time in his music career.  I believe we actually walked into our reception to this song, so that tells you the kind of mood we were trying to set from the beginning of our recpetion. (The mood is shake that booty, if you didn’t catch it.)

7. Pretty Young Thing – PYT – Michael Jackson

Michael is a classic.   He’s got jams and this is the best one for weddings in my opinion.  Make sure this in on your playlist!

6. Blame it on the Boogie – The Jacksons

Along with PYT, Blame is on the Boogie is simply a MUST HAVE.  SHAKE IT GIRL.

5. Funky Town – Lipps Inc.

Won’t you take me to Funkytown?  This song is amazing, the “80’sness” of this song is amazing, and if you haven’t seen the music video, I suggest giving it a watch because it has more “playing in the background of a dive bar” vibes than anything I’ve ever seen.  I could dance the night away to this jam.  It’s always on my playlist for any dance party.

4. Love Shack – The B52’s

The B-52’s may have been a one hit wonder with this song, but damn did they do it right.  Every time I hear that drum beat in the beginning I know what’s coming for me, and I accept it with open arms.

3. Shake Your Groove Thing – Peaches and Herb

“75% Goofy Movie, 25% Shrek Forever After” – Random YouTube Comment on this video.  100% accurate.

2. September – Earth, Wind and Fire

I am a LITTLE biased towards this song because Kennedy was born on September 20th and in the song they ask if you “remember the 21st night of September” and I absolutely do because it was my first night with my newborn so 10/10.  Also, you can shake your booty to this song, and feel no regret.

and FINALLY 1. Play That Funky Music – Wild Cherry

When I start to hear the guitar riff in the beginning of this song, I know it’s about to go down. This 1976 CLASSIC has aged so well, and will NEVER go out of style.

Again, if you are interested in my whole“Wedding” playlist, you can check it out on Spotify, here! I promise you will not be disappointed.  These songs are tried and true!

What songs would you add to this list?  Let me know in the comments!
